Who can obtain the Sustainability Certificate?
The certificate is open to all regularly enrolled RUB students (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral candidates). There are no specific entry requirements.
II study at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Can I have RUB courses recognized for the BNE Certificate at my university?
Yes, you can have successfully completed modules and/or courses recognized for the BNE Certificate at your home university. If you are interested, please contact Birgit Frey (zertifikat-n@rub.de) by email, including your student ID number and the course(s) you wish to attend.
Places will be allocated as long as availability allows. If no places remain, you will be placed on a waiting list and may still be admitted if spots become available.
Please note that registration for selected RUB courses is handled through the Studium Liberale – E3 program at your university.
I study at TU Dortmund. Can I have RUB courses recognized for the studium oecologicum at my university?
Yes, you can have successfully completed modules and/or courses recognized for the studium oecologicum at your university. If you are interested, please contact Birgit Frey (zertifikat-n@rub.de) by email, including your student ID number and the course(s) you wish to attend.

How is the Sustainability Certificate structured?
The certificate consists of three modules, each worth 5 ECTS credits: the basic, an advanced, and a practical module.
Is there a required order for completing the Basic, Advanced, and Practical Module?
No, there is no fixed sequence. However, it is recommended to start with the basic module.
Where can I find the Basic Module?
You can find the basic module under the title “Nachhaltigkeit und Zukunft – Interdisziplinäre Aspekte” in eCampus or on this website under the “Course Program” section.
Where can I find current offers for the Advanced and/or Practical Module?
You can find current offers for the advanced and practical module on this website under the “Courses Program” section. Alternatively, you may have coursework from your degree program recognized, provided it clearly relates to sustainability in line with the certificate requirements. You can find more information about the recognition rules on this website under the “Students” section.
I have already taken courses in my subject area that relate to sustainability. Can these be recognized for the Sustainability Certificate?
Yes, provided that the courses clearly address sustainability in line with the certificate requirements. The content will be reviewed and approved by the certificate coordinator of your faculty. A list of contact persons can be found here:
There is no certificate coordinator in my faculty. Who should I contact?
If you have any questions about the certificate, you can always get in touch with the coordination office by email at zertifikat-n@rub.de (Ms Frey).
How do I receive my certificate?
Once you have completed all the required components for the certificate and they have been recorded in eCampus or FlexNow, simply send your current transcript by email to the coordination office (zertifikat-n@rub.de).
We will take care of the rest and notify you as soon as your certificate is ready. You can then collect it from the coordination office (GAFO 04/914) or, if you prefer, have it sent to you by mail.
